Photography
One of the most important aspect of beautiful publication is excellent photography. Black & Brown ensures that this is within its control by having its very own and highly talented photographers- photographers who in their own right are artists.
One such photographer is Nuraini Mohd Zain, who specialises in nature photography. Within the large scope of nature, she specialises in the photography of tiny flowers. These flowers are often impossible to be examined just with the naked eye without the aid of magnifiers. Photographing them too requires careful planning and care.
Nuraini has travelled the country in pursuit of new specimen. In all, she personally has a bank of more than 5000 individual shots of over 300 flowers. A number of these flowers are included in a coffee-table book- Beauty in Miniature.

A tiny step forward - Nourishment of NUR
This collection of verses of the Holy Quran and Hadith of the Holy Prophet (pbuh) is put together with love for the benefit of both Muslims and non-Muslim readers. It invites them to appreciate Islam better, and we pray that Truth guide the Umah, Insya-Allah.
Its completion, and in quick time too, is only made possible by His blessings. Praise be to Allah. Commissioned by Prudential BSN, this project was completed before the closing of 2006, and in one go underlined the struggles of Black & Brown to bring forth the reminders of His Guiding Light. Nonetheless, we are grateful that the client had wished for the project and additionally, had agreed to include in its illumination, the beautiful collection of rarely photographed miniature flowers.
Many who take pleasure in enjoying His beautiful creations of flowers are familiar with the everyday but enchanting roses, hibiscuses and orchids, however, most are unfamiliar with miniature beauty that ironically surrounds them in abundance. These beauties are tiny and as a result hide from view, unless one takes the trouble to examine the natural surrounding with awareness in one hand and a magnifying glass in another.
These painstakingly wondrous photographs are the discoveries of Nuraini Mohd Zain. While the collection is numerous, as she has photographed them throughout Malaysia, we display only twenty-one of her works in Nourishment Of NUR. These carefully selected miniature flowers, most being no more than 5mm large, include plants that are edible and or medicinal.
We hope that readers of Nourishment Of NUR will journey on with their lives in constant reminder of The Words of Allah and His Holy Prophet, and at the same time be aware that He does not miss out on anything however small, as these perfect tiny flowers are proof of His love and care for the minutest of details. Hence, nothing escapes Him, even if it is smaller than the size of an atom- that which is physical or even that which rest latent and deep in the backrooms of our heart.
We too then must not forget our friends who have made our efforts possible. Tuan Haji Rahim Rashid of University Putra Malaysia- an enthusiastic lover of plants with the uncanny ability of having their names at his fingertips. Dr. llham Adnan of FRIM- whom we knew from ago and we have been fortunate to keep in touch, his love and knowledge for the medicinal value of plants have helped us to identify the Green Gold of Malaysia. Puan Sheila Rahman- a writer, an editor, and truly a dear friend, who is always encouraging us to journey forward in highlighting Allah’s hidden treasures that most take for granted. Captain Man- the agile and most helpful, who goes where ladders do not reach, has helped to secure flowers such as the canopy swaying Teak and Rubber flowers. These are dear and wonderful friends who have helped lift the curtain of discovery; we are eternally grateful.
